Northcote

Canada’s Matt Goud (aka Northcote) has an eclectic musical background, informed by punk, soul, traditional country and the hymns he learned at his childhood church.  On his sophomore full-length Northcote, he melds multi-part harmonies with rich folk-rock guitars to create 12 tracks that are as powerful and confident as they are are touching and reflective.  The album was recorded with producer Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Cave Singers, Dan Mangan) at The Hive Creative Labs.

Northcote is set to be released in the US via Black Numbers on January 21, 2014, having already been released and warmly received earlier this year in Canada on Black Box Recordings and in Europe on Frank Turner’s Xtra Mile Recordings. Matt is currently touring the world opening for Dave Hause and the two are set to begin the US leg of their tour in late January (all tour dates below).

PureVolume today shared the track “Counting Down the Days” from the upcoming album, which has already won praise from Exclaim! who called the music “…folk-rock that draws influences from the canon of post-punk and hardcore, a number of songs were reminiscent of Cursive, like a smoothed-out Against Me! or a more gruff City and Colour.”
